No, I'm not here to talk shit about men. no, I'm not here to convince you that men have it easier. I'm just trying to explain how being a woman can be exhausting sometimes.

Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, let me set the scene.

you are a 21-year-old woman, walking by yourself in a deserted road. you're wearing casual clothes and you're heading home after work. it's getting dark but you can still see the sun.

as you're walking, you see a group of men standing and talking a few feet away. you are nervous. you cross the road and start walking on the opposite sidewalk to avoid these men.

a few minutes later, you hear footsteps behind you. you are scared. you turn around to make sure you aren't being followed. you breathe when you realize its an old lady.

you're two blocks away from home. you check your watch. 6 pm. you realize your parents won't be home for another 2 hours. you reach your house. you take out your keys and turn around to make sure no one is watching you. you enter the house and lock the door. you check twice to make sure it's locked properly. when you're satisfied, you go to the kitchen to grab some food. you turn on the TV and eat your food. you check the door again to make sure it's locked.

When you're washing your bowl, you hear a knock on the door. you check the clock. 7 pm. "whom could it be?" "my friends wouldn't come over this late" "mom and dad won't be back for another hour" " who could it be?" you check through the peephole. its just mum and dad, early from work. you are relieved.

You open the door and let them in. you ask them about their day. they ask you about yours. you chat for a while before going up to your room. you change into your pyjamas and get into bed. its only 8 pm but you fall asleep anyway.

The next day

While you're going to work by bus, a man keeps bumping into you. you don't know if it's accidental or intentional. you don't want to risk getting an innocent man in trouble in case it was accidental so you keep your mouth shut and put up with it.

you get off the bus. you walk in excited about a potential promotion. when you approach your boss about it, he tells you that he had already given it to your colleague, because he thought a man was a better fit for the job.

"its a desk job. anyone can do it. I'm more qualified." He tells you you're being too sensitive about it.

You return to your desk and finish all your work for the day.

its 5 pm. you pack your bags and walk to the bus stop. all the buses are crowded.

You're tired so you book a cab instead. you spend the entire cab ride looking at the map to make sure you're not getting kidnapped.

You reach home and tell your mom about your horrible day at work.

I wish I could tell you that I was just over exaggerating to get my point across. sadly, this isn't an exaggeration. this is simply reality.
